Agricultural Growth Foundation
The goal of the newly formed
Wisconsin Agricultural Growth Foundation, Inc (WAGF)
is to spur economic
growth in Wisconsin’s
agricultural sector, specifically equine related enterprises,
by funding grant requests to qualified projects and
programs. WAGF will also provide college scholarships
to youth who
previously contributed to the growth and improvement
of equine agricultural industry. The monies for these
grants
and scholarships
will be provided by income generated from off-track
betting at Wisconsin tribal casinos.
Programs and projects eligible
for these grants must be dedicated to equine focused
charitable,
educational, benevolent
and/or scientific purposes. Such programs include the University
of Wisconsin - Department of Animal Science and School
of Veterinary Medicine, Wisconsin State 4-H Horse
Association,
Wisconsin State Fair Park – Ag Village, Wisconsin
State Horse Council, Wisconsin Stallion and Mare Development
Fund,
and other agricultural organizations exempt from taxation.
Grants will continue to be awarded on a semi-annual basis.
A major focus of the foundation is awarding scholarships
to deserving youth. Starting in 2005-2006, two students will
receive college scholarships for $2000.00 each year for four
years. While recipients may major in any field, they must
have previously been a member of excellent standing in a
recognized equine or agricultural organization for at least
three years. Interested persons need to contact the WAGF
at 262-677-1377.
Since Wisconsin became a state, agriculture has driven its
economy. The Wisconsin Agricultural Growth Foundation, Inc.
wants to contribute to the health and growth of this industry.
Wisconsin tribal casinos are proud to support this endeavor
with profits from pari-mutuel wagering.
