Agriculture is at the heart of what the Wisconsin State Fair is all about. Throughout the 11-days of
the Fair more than 10,000 animals are exhibited offering Fairgoers an unbelievable opportunity to learn about the Badger State’s largest industry. Cattle, sheep, llamas, horses, goats, swine, alpacas, poultry and rabbits fill the barns in Ag Village. These magnificent and beautiful creatures are exhibited by youth and adults from both Wisconsin and from across the country.

The Fair’s programming provides plenty of wonderful and interactive opportunities to enhance your knowledge about Wisconsin’s agriculture industry. Learn about the dairy industry during daily milking demonstrations in the Milking Parlor, located on the southeast corner on the lower level of the double deck barn. Stroll through Discovery Barnyard to learn about the lifecycle of animals, or enhance your knowledge of the dairy industry at the House of Moo in the Livestock Barn. Visit Ag Oasis to find out more about Urban Agriculture and how you can incorporate it into your life.

Participate in special programs, including Ag Venture on Tuesday, August 5 in the Poultry & Rabbit Palace. Ag Venture features 15 hands-on stations exploring everything from Ag Biotechnology to important everyday nutrition facts, plus you’ll have the chance to milk a goat and learn what it takes to raise the many animals exhibited at the Fair. Kids and adults alike will enjoy a visit to the Petting Zoo on Wednesday, August 6, also in the Poultry & Rabbit Palace. Jo Don Farms will bring the coolest animals around for Fairgoers to pet, feed, and see up close.

One of the highlights of the Fair, the Governor’s Blue Ribbon Livestock Auction, celebrates its 40th Anniversary on Wednesday, August 6. The Coliseum will bustle with the excitement and chatter of the Governor’s Blue Ribbon Livestock Auction as auctioneers chide bidders to raise the stakes and up the ante. Exhilaration and the excitement level increases as the bids go higher and higher on each Champion Market Steer, Lamb, and Barrow. Proceeds from the event contribute to the Premier Exhibitor Contest, Reserve Champion Market Animal Awards, Scholarships, Camp of Champions and the Wisconsin Livestock Breeder’s annual Show Camp. To learn more about how you can paricipate, call 414.259.4138. Families should plan a visit to the Ag Oasis, presented by McDonald’s Restaurants of Southeastern Wisconsin, for daily music and drama perfomances showcased by youth members of Wisconsin’s 4-H. Also check out the Urban Agriculture Exhibits located just east of Ag Oasis.
