Nomination
Process: Anyone who has an interest in nominating
a candidate for consideration as a judge at the Wisconsin
State Fair is encouraged to do so. Completed
nomination forms may be submitted at any time and
will be considered for the upcoming Fair as time
permits.
Wisconsin State Fair Agriculture
Department: All
received nomination forms will be reviewed by the
Wisconsin State Fair Agriculture Department. Nominees
must be an approved judge on the respective breed
association national list or have at least three
of the following attributes to be considered:
- two years or more of judging experience outside
of formal education / judging team competitions;
- experience judging at least two shows at a state
level or higher;
- industry academia or expert; and
Nomination will separated into one of two lists: nominees that meet or exceed minimum requirements or nominees that do not meet minimum requirements. Both lists will be submitted to the Agriculture Committee for review and further action.
Agriculture Committee: The Agriculture Committee
Chairperson will present the pool of qualified candidates
to the Agriculture Committee for consideration. The
Agriculture Committee will review candidate qualifications
and then create an approved pool of candidates. Once
approved, the Chairperson will provide the lists
of qualified judges to the Wisconsin State Fair Park
Agriculture Department.
Wisconsin State Fair Park Agriculture
Department: The
Agriculture Director or his/her designee will add
the newly approved candidates to the existing approved
candidate list and determine the order of selection
based on a multitude of considerations including;
cost, travel arrangements, industry relationships,
profession, articulation, speed, reliability, durability,
and exhibitor relationships.
The Agriculture Director or his/her
designee will contact the highest ranking candidate
in each specific area and negotiate contracts,
including detailing responsibilities and expectations
of judges in the best interest of the Wisconsin
State Fair.
Judges’ names will be held
in confidentiality until released by Wisconsin
State Fair management at a time which is deemed
most appropriate.
If all approved judging pool
candidates are unavailable or do not, in fact,
meet the minimum qualifications required by the
Agriculture Committee, the Agriculture Director
under the direction of the Agriculture Committee
Chair is responsible for locating a qualified candidate
from outside the pool. Similarly, if a judge
under contract cannot fulfill the contract for whatever
reason, the Agriculture Director under the direction
of the Agriculture Committee Chair is responsible
for locating a qualified replacement judge from the
approved candidate pool and if that is not possible,
a candidate from outside the pool. The appropriateness
of such actions will be reviewed by the Agriculture
Committee at its next scheduled meeting, with an
additional goal of improving the hiring process going
forward.
At the first Agriculture Committee
meeting following the Fair, the Agriculture Director
will submit a written report detailing why one
qualified judge candidate was selected over other
qualified candidates, comments on actual judge
performance and recommendations to improve the
judge selection process for future state fairs.

Judge Pool Candidates’ information must be
